Cheating We'll come clean from the outset: Velocity is the freshwater version of our Cobalt action. We did this for an obvious reason: Our high-energy saltwater rods are certifiable handguns. Point and shoot, fast and furious, lifting power and laser loops.
Big flies on open water, blowing like hell? Yep. Send one out to a seam in the middle of a wide freestone and throw in a reach? Nailed it. Lift a meaty streamer with a Belgian backcast and hit the other side of the river? Done. 10 inch brookies in a beaver pond on 6X? Uh . . . not quite. But if speed is what you need . . .Lighter hardware, forgotten fighting butts, foofy finishes for us trout guys, things like that.
End of story.

I've been a Lamson reel fanatic since I got into the fly fishing game 12 years ago. The reels, specifically the drag system, are the best in the industry. I started to eye the rods about 6-8 months ago. In an emergency - due to a competitors rod weirdly breaking under the cork - I picked up a Velocity in a 5 wt. LET ME TELL YOU, it was the best decision I could've made. Tight loops, line management was insane, and the back bone to handle and land multiple fish over 22' and 4+ lbs that came up and CRUSHED FOAM. Going forward, I will have a quiver of Lamson rods (4-8). LAMSON V EVERYBODY

Big fish on foam dries?? Yes please! That is a perfect application for that rod, and your description is spot on. Glad you were able to get one in your hands and put it to the test. You'll love the other weights too.

Do it all rod

Typically not one to leave a review but after frequently recommending these rods to others it only felt right to.
I have over the years started to fish more and more exclusively lamson rods leaving my others just as backups. Being the streamer junkie I am, my 7wt velocity quickly became one of my favorite rods and over the last 3 years has caught everything from trophy Idaho browns and bulls to nearly double digit largemouth, and GTs, Snook in the salt along with just about every freshwater gamefish that’ll take a fly. This rod truly does it all. Incredibly lightweight but with more than enough muscle to shoot clean casts with huge flies. Rod repair policy and customer service is great, while I live locally I’ve still been shocked to find every lamson I’ve ever broken back on my doorstep within a week and a half to 5 days. These guys truly care about getting you back on the water.

These kinds of reviews mean a ton! We realize it can be a pain to take time and write them but it’s always great when a rod or reel does so well that someone goes out of their way to do it. Thank you for the support and for fishing our rods. The Velocity is a shop favorite in all its different weights for big dries like salmon flies and hoppers, or clunky nymph rigs, streamers, bass/carp flies etc. We prioritize customer service and always make sure that repairs are taken care of ASAP so we don’t leave anyone stranded w/o their gear.
